If you want to get ripped off and buy something that will last a few days, then I highly recommend Kingston Motors and if you want the full experience with a dodgy salesman then ask for Rob. We had spoken to Rob a few times about an Alpha Romeo 156, currently still for sale, which my son was actually buying, and was told it had all its services and roadworthy certificate. We asked about the timing belt as they need to be done every so many kms or years. Yep all good not a problem. I asked if they could take some money off as we were coming from SA to Victoria and the from what Rob said the belt would need replacing in a few months. So they cancelled the rego that was left and took $400 off, I guess it was better than nothing, it was going to now cost that much for rego etc back in SA. So we were asked to pay $500 deposit and so we paid it as Rob said the car was great and had all this and that, RWC and timing belt was good to go. So we get there and find the timing belt was completely cracked and perished, it wouldn’t even make it to Melbourne let alone South Australia!!! It also had an oil leak from the sump, so how it got a RWC is questionable. I requested the deposit back reminding him it was paid in good faith and on the understanding that the car was as we were led to believe, I was told no we can’t have it back. After some arguing with dodgy Rob who insisted he’s not a mechanic and that their mechanic didn’t hold back information about what was wrong with car, which made me ask who was lying the mechanic to him or him to us, he finally agreed to give my son the deposit back.
Don’t think that you are going to get a good car based on the RWC as they are definetly as dodgy as the car yard and the sales people that work there. They also seem to have no respect for the guy who works there cleaning or whatever he does, as one of the other salesmen screamed at him in front of everyone like the guy was an animal over something minor with a vacumm.
Says a lot about their characters. Stay away
Firstly, thank you for the feedback, we would like to extend our sincere apologies in regards to your recent experience.
Comments like these give us an opportunity to review our processes to make sure they don’t occur again, I think in the future it is important for us to insist on a pre purchase inspection by RACV or least to have a mechanic available when people are travelling so far to explain or rectify any concerns.
Unfortunately not having a mechanic available for you meant that the belt you were looking at was not the Cam Belt, the Cam Belt is not visible unless you remove the car's front engine covers, which usually takes several hours of work. I think you might be referring to the Air Conditioning Serpentine Belt (which indeed does have perishing cracks but is very serviceable).
However prior to your arrival, Rob was very clear with your husband that we had no record of whether or not the Cam Belt had been replaced. Your husband even went so far as to obtain prices for himself to replace the Cam Belt once you got back to South Australia. We also provided details of the dealer who had been servicing the vehicle, so that you could make contact with them and check the vehicle service history and get a third-party opinion on the car. Furthermore, we also described the vehicle in detail and very accurately to your husband over the phone, even so far as to describe some clear coat lifting off the bonnet.
Whilst this car does have some signs of wear-and-tear, I think it is important to note that the car did have a full Roadworthy completed by an external party and work was completed on the vehicle to ensure that it is a great second-hand car purchase for someone including New Front Brake Pads and Rotors, Machining of the Rear Rotors with New Brake Pads, 2 outer CV Boots, Rocker Cover Gaskets replaced for an oil leak, plus some smaller items such as globes, wiper blades etc.
Finally, it is surprising to hear that you thought one of our sales persons spoke to our car detailer in a derogatory manner as we hold the utmost respect for all our employees, I have already spoken to our detailer who is unaware of this incident taking place and the other sales person is currently on annual leave, but I want to assure you that all avenues will be pursued to follow this up.
Again, I would like to thank you for your feedback and if you would like to discuss any of these matters further, please call Craig (03 9555 0333).
